History and Life Forms of Flowers Israel

When we talk about Flowers Israel, we talk about the wild flowers and not the flowers that men grow. We are wrong if we think that all the wild Flowers Israel were here many years. Men and animales destroyed many flowers species. Many flowers are now wild but brought here by men many years ago. Even in these days, we destroy flowers species and bring other flowers species to the country.

In spite of what is written above, it seems that a lot of the flora is here before the ice age. In Israel area, the ice age didn't do many changes. Most of the flora before the ice age exist today.

Rauwolf, a flora researcher, was the first to explore seriously the flora in the years 1573-1576. He discovered the flora and wrote a book about it. The book tells us about the people, the country and the flora on those days. In the coming years, many scouters visited Israel and described the country. They wrote especialy about geographic places and Christianity. From data distributed in those literatures we can get a picture about the flora on those days. One of the jewish pioneers that explore the flora was Aharon Aharonson. He collected many flowers. His collection atill exists in Zehron Yakov Aharonson house.

In the twenty century, a new age in flora research appeared when the Hebrew University was born. One of the first pioneers on those days was Prof. Alexander Eig. He contrbuted a lot to flora knowledge and to the distrbuted of flora knowledge around the world. His collection was the foundation to the Hebrew University collection.

Israel flora varied in its life forms. Life form is the flora life length, sizes, its behaviour and more. Lets see the main forms:

A. One-year flora - Their life is limited to one year. Not less than 55% of the Israel flora is a one-year flora. One-year flora is a symbol to dry weather. This kind of life enables a flower to blossom in a rainy year and disappear in a dry year. In desert regions 75% of the flora is one-year flora. In dry desert conditions, a flower can wait as seeds for the good years. These kind of flowers can also change their size according to humidity in a specific year.

Anagallis Arvensis is a one-year grass which is 10-30 cm long. It grows in gardened fields, virgin land and open fields. Anagallis Arvensis grows mainly in Mediterranean flora region and Irano-Turanian region but has also spread to the rest of the flora regions.

B. Multi-Years flora. The flowers and the green parts of the flora disappear in dry weather and appear in a rainy weather.  There are many multi-years flowers in Israel.

Cyclamen Persicum has multi year bulb. There is one flower for each stalk. The flowers blossom from november to april. In the Mediterranean flora region the flowers blossom after the rain. The flowers are very common in the shadow under the trees. The leafs are long and look like heart. The flowers grow in the Mediterranean flora region.
